PILI, CAMARINES SUR, May 16, 2017 - Local farmers and fisherfolk take the centerstage from May 15-16 as the region celebrates the 2017 Farmers’Festival at the Department of Agriculture Regional Office here.

The fitting tribute is the Regional Office’s way of thanking the heroes in the agriculture sector (farmers and fisherfolks) for a good harvest every year despite the various calamities that destroy their crops, Regional Director Ellen de los Santos said in an interview over DZGB-am.

This is aptly described in the theme: "Masaganang Agrikultura at Pangisdaan Masaganang Bansa."

A trade fair or the so called Market, Market is organized where the farmers and fisherfolks from the 6 provinces of the region showcase and sell their products like fresh vegetables, fruits and processed fish and many others.

De los Santos added that trainings and seminars and meeting of the Cacao Board were conducted to improve the cacao industry in the Bicol Region. She reported that the agricultural status of the region remains stable due despite of quite late harvest when Tropical Cyclone Nina hit the region in December 2016. The early distribution of hybrid seeds to the farmers enable them to plant again.
