TABAK FESTIVAL GOES TRIBAL, THE CITY OF LOVE GOES VIRAL

TABACO CITY (June 16) – Celebrating the Tabak Festival make Tabaco City the center of the World. The City of Love’s opening of Tabak Festival today, revved with a blast of merry making.

Started with  the Tabak Eucharistia (Holy Mass) at 6AM at St. John the Baptist Church, it was followed by the Bombo Tabaqueño or parade participated in by City Mayor Krisel Lagman-Luistro and the city officials, LGU personnel, Barangay Councils, PNP, BFP, BMP and DepEd.

Unity and diversity and love is the simple message uttered by Mayor Krisel  in this years celebration in an interview over DZGB News. Present in the occasion are Dept. of Tourism Regional Director Nini Ravanilla and DTI Asst. Regional Director Rodrigo Aguilar.

There are three major elements that symbolize the City: tabak (bolo), padyak (pedicab) and abaca (a local fiber). Tabak represents the people of Tabaco’s courage in spirit. Padyak reflects the people’s love for the environment; since the vehicle is pedalled by the driver’s strength and uses no gasoline. And the abaca, a commonly-used material for making ropes, ornaments and native bags, and now, exported globally to supply textile industries, which embodies the local pride of the Tabaqueños for hardwork.

The ceremonies featured a ceremonial toast to formally declare the Tabak Festival open. Agri Fiesta Tabaqueña, Tabak Trade Fair and Tabakulenaria, Tabak making exhibition, Pasale (DLC Exhibition), Tabak Awards/Pag-onra sa Tabak, and El Concierto Tabaqueño (Opening concert) with Boyband Ph and Tabak Pasilyab (fireworks display) highlights the events on the first day of the ten-day activities (June 16-25). Mayor Krisel has been successful for Tabaqueños to showcase their artistry and heritage. (Mar de la Cruz with reports from Joemar Bien)
