BICOL HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER – Asec. Alegre


BACACAY, ALBAY (August 28) – Bicol’s tourism industry continue to flourish. “ The Bicol Peninsula  prides itself for having coastal beaches, coves, islands, marine biodiversity, protective areas, volcanic wonders especially Mt. Mayon, mountain landscapes and rich cultural heritage, historic sites, customs traditions, cuisines and festivals and is therefore a major tourism player”, said Deparment of Tourism Asst. Sec. Frederick “Ricky”Alegre in his keynote speech in the unveiling of the Pacific View Wing of Misibis Bay Luxury Resort, Cagraray here the other day.

In the year 2014,  Alegre said Bicol received 3.7 million visitors. Almost 3 million are domestics, 657,000 overseas Filipinos and 726,000 foreign travellers. Registering a growth rate  of 40.5 % from 2013 with a value of P3.3 million. Camarines Sur, and the cities of Naga and Iriga topped all the provinces with 1.9 million which accounted for  49.97% of the total arrivals in the region. Albay is consistently next in rank but the growth of foreign arrivals is from positive 99.2% growth rate in 2013 to 12.3% in 2014. Notably the DOT official said that Albay tourism industry is largely dependent on domestic market.

Asec Alegre added that Legaspi City looks promising as it achieved 10.13% growth for the first seven months of 2017 compared to the same period recorded last year.  He further said that the unveiling of the Pacific View Wing of the resort is a purveyor of hope and vision for a brighter tourism in the region as they await for the infrastructure support of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte on his promised and aggressively build, build, build program of the administration. Alegre reiterated his assurance of full support in all the request to further boost tourism in the province.  He believes that Bicol will reach greater heights because when tourism grows, the life of every Filipino grows with it.

Also present in the occasion were  DOT-Bicol Regional Director Benjie Santiago, Ako Bikol Rep. Alfredo “Pido” Garbin, Board Member Alan Rañola, Zaldy Co and family, Albay media personalities and Fr. Edwin Bragais who administer the blessing of the Pacific View Wing and a holy mass. (Mar de la Cruz)
