PNP BICOL SUSPENDS CHECKPOINTS AND COMELEC GUN BAN IMPLEMENTATION



 CAMP GEN. SIMEON OLA, LEGAZPI CITY (October 5)  – PNP Bicol automatically suspended the implementation of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban and checkpoint operations after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed into law Republic Act 10952 or AN ACT POSTPONING THE OCTOBER 2017 BARANGAY AND SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN ELECTIONS, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE THE REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9164, AS AMENDED  BY REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9340. REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10632, REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10656, AND REPUBLIC ACT  NO. 10925, FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

The new law postponed the supposed October 23 polls and set the Barangay and SK Elections on the second Monday of May 2018,  second Monday of May 2020 and every three (3) years thereafter. The incumbent barangay officials will still continue to function in a hold over capacity unless suspended or removed for violation of existing laws. Comelec issued an order to suspend all activities related to the conduct of Barangay and SK elections this year.

However the conduct of the Anti-Criminality checkpoint will continue. Violators of the Comelec gun ban is now on the discretion of the proper court of justice. (Mar de la Cruz)
