DSWD AND OTHER NDRRMC MEMBER AGENCIES CARAVAN ARRIVED IN ALBAY


LEGAZPI CITY (Feb.28) - Dubbed “Hatid Tulong sa Apektado ng Mt. Mayon Eruption, the DSWD and other NDRRMC member agencies caravan arrived Wednesday at the Albay Sports Complex in Guinobatan, Albay and distributed 24,000 family food packs or P12,996,000 worth of food packs and non-food items to nine (9) affected LGU’s of Albay for consumption of Mayon Volcano Eruption evacuees now temporarily housed at the designated evacuation centers in the province.

DSWD-Bicol Regional Dir. Arnel Garcia said that the family food packs is good for two-days consumption of a family with 6 kilos of rice, 4 cans of sardines, 4 cans of corned beef, and 6 sachets of coffe/energy drink.

The caravan was spearheaded by the DSWD to sustain the food and non-food items needed by the displaced residents due to the restive Mayon Volcano while Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) transported the items. Garcia said that they are ready to feed evacuees in their stay in the different evacuation centers. Earlier, DSWD assured the chief executives of affected municipalities that they have buffer stocks of food packs for up to 100 days. (Mar de la Cruz with reports from Jimmy Nasalita)
